Project background

Council undertook community engagement on the future of Camira Recreation Park (74 Moss Road, Camira), including the existing dog off‑leash area and the netball courts.

The engagement aimed to better understand how these facilities were used and to hear what the community would like to see in the future. As part of this work, council sought feedback to:

  • Identify current user groups and frequency of use for both the netball courts and the dog off-leash area
  • Understand community sentiment on the possible future options for the netball courts, including:
    • converting the space to open green space,
    • removing some courts to allow for partial expansion of the dog off-leash area, or
    • retaining the netball courts in their current form.

The existing dog off‑leash area includes separate small‑dog and large‑dog sections. Due to site constraints, including overland water flow and flooding considerations, any potential expansion of the dog off‑leash area would need to occur within the footprint of the current netball courts.

The netball courts are significantly aged and would require substantial repair to meet contemporary standards. Should the courts remain in their current location, there are no present plans to upgrade them.

Council sincerely thanks the residents, businesses and community members who shared their time and insights. All feedback received will be reviewed and considered as part of council’s next steps and decision‑making process, helping to inform future planning for Camira Recreation Park.
