2023 Creators of Ipswich Summit

This year's summit theme was 'Framing our city's artistic legacy' with an aim to:

Highlight the potential the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic games brings to the Arts
Inspire creators and artists to consider how to be ready for the opportunities
Provide an occasion for participants to network with other industry professionals

2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games - creative opportunities

Cultural Olympiad

The Olympic and Paralympic games have a long history of combining sport and culture. Paris 2024 has set the tone that the cultural celebration on the games commence at the conclusion of Tokyo 2020 games.

Arts Queensland has recognised this process and highlighted the planning and delivery of the Cultural Olympiad as part of their Creative Together strategy. Ipswich City Council is commited to supporting creators and artists in their preparation for opportunities presented during the Cultural Olympiad.

Caragh and Pauline are passionate Ipswich locals. They blend their expertise in events, arts, and community development to create impactful and transformative experiences. Well known for work with local community groups, Caragh and Pauline are driven by the vision of shaping a thriving creative future for our city while making a tangible difference in people's lives.
Lincoln Austin

Workshop Presenter - Pathway to exhibition
Lincoln Austin has exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2021, a 20-year survey exhibition, Lincoln Austin: The Space Between Us, was curated for Ipswich Art Gallery by Samantha Littley, Curator, Australian Art, QAGOMA.
Melanie Saward

Workshop Presenter - Creating a killer quer/pitch for publishers
Melanie Saward is a proud descendant of the Bigambul and Wakka Wakka peoples. She is a writer, editor, and university lecturer. Her writing has been published in Flock, Overland, Kill Your Darlings, and New Australian Fiction 2019 and she is the managing editor of Djed Press.
Rhianna Patrick

Workshop Presenter - Introduction to Podcasts
Rhianna Patrick is a freelance Torres Strait Islander journalist, broadcaster and audio content creator with 25 years' media experience. She's worked across news, tv documentaries, national radio programming and podcasts.
Wayne McDonnell

Workshop Presenter - Photography through the ages and into the future
Member of the Ipswich Arts Advisory Group, Wayne is a passionate local photographer. Wayne's workshop titled "Photography through the ages and into the future" will cover the history of photography and discuss the future with AI.
Sean Williams

Networking Q&A Panelist
Sean received the Emerging Artist award at the 2017 SWELL Sculpture Festival. In 2018 he was awarded Arts Queensland RADF grant to fund a mentorship with Emeritus Professor Patricia Hoffie, and in 2020 an Arts Queensland grant for an Assistant Curator role at SWELL.

In 2022 he graduated from the Master of Visual Arts program at Queensland College of Arts with distinction. 2023 saw his first solo exhibition entitled Embodied Memories.
