Project background
The iGO Ipswich Transport Strategy 2025 (iGO Strategy) defines the aspirations for future transport in Ipswich to support a population of 533,800 by 2046. It outlines key opportunities and challenges faced and council’s overarching strategic direction to advance the city’s transport system for a thriving and liveable city. The iGO strategy promotes a more sustainable and responsive transport network, providing access to opportunity and travel choices, and was developed with the community’s voice at its core to reflect the diverse needs of our residents.
The purpose of the iGO Strategy is to:
- Guide council’s transport-related activities, including planning, operations, and investment decision-making
- Provide clarity for the community, key stakeholders and other levels of government on council’s forward-looking transport priorities to advance advocacy and partnership opportunities
- Promote positive change by encouraging healthier and more sustainable travel behaviours across the Ipswich community
In developing the iGO Strategy, a series of technical investigations and consultations with key stakeholders and the community were completed. Community engagement was split into three parts:
- Part A of community engagement was undertaken in December 2022 - March 2023 to better understand current transport opportunities and challenges.
- Part B of community engagement was undertaken in April - October 2023 to review the proposed vision and objectives of the iGO Ipswich Transport Strategy.
- Part C of community engagement was undertaken in November - December 2024 to review the proposed strategic directions of the iGO Ipswich Transport Strategy.
