Bundamba Flood Awareness Guide available now
Explore the Bundamba guide, created with the assistance of locals for locals, and consider how prepared you are for future flooding.
Phase one
The community was asked to share their flood experiences in Bundamba and provide feedback on how they prefer to receive information during future flood events as well as share details on individual preparedness measures.

Below is a snapshot of some statistics reflecting the total number of contributors to the Phase 1 engagement, based on 351 survey contributors.
What you shared
The following results are based on feedback from 40 contributors for Bundamba.

- 60% live in Bundamba
- 23% work in Bundamba
- 30% either attend or a member of their family attend a school in Bundamba
- 6% own or operate a business in Bundamba
- 13% are members of community groups in Bundamba
- 18% mentioned other connections to the area

Previous impacts
- 60% have been impacted by flooding in Bundamba
Of that 60%,
- 30% have experienced water inside their home
- 40% had water enter onto their property
- 20% moved their possessions to higher ground
- 67% purchased supplies and planned to shelter in place
- 50% either evacuated or assisted other to evacuate -
Information sources
- The Bureau of Meteorology was the most commonly used source of information for 23% of Bundamba respondents
- Followed by the use of flood mapping, river height and gauge data was the second preference for 19% of Bundamba contributors
- Traditional channels such as radio and television were the strongest third preference

- 58% agreed that they could access information about Bundamba
- 55% agreed that they understood the information that was shared
- 16% agreed that the information shared was too technical/difficult to understand
- 48% agreed that they used the information shared to help them prepare
- 39% agreed that the information shared was reliable and accurate

- 78% understand the flood risk for Bundamba
- 73% understand the impact of minor, moderate and major flood level classifications impacts Bundamba
- 43% know which flood gauge/s applies to Bundamba

- 65% would prefer to have the plans available via an Android/Apple App
- 55% would prefer a physical booklet
- 55% would like to view the guides on the Ipswich Disaster Dashboard

- Nine community members participated in both Phase 1 and Phase 2, helping to review how feedback was reflected in the draft Guide
- Five contributors believed their Phase 1 feedback was reflected in the Guide, while six contributors did not participate in Phase 1
- 10 contributors indicated that they intend to use the Guide to support their emergency preparedness activities, while four contributors were unsure

- Community feedback received during Phase 2 helped shape 112 improvements to the draft Bundamba Guide.

Disclaimer: Quantitative and qualitative data was collected from participants during the engagement, in accordance with council’s Information Privacy Policy. Quantitative data was downloaded from the various digital platforms and/or transcribed into a master Excel database by project staff. The data was cleaned, de-identified, aggregated and charted in the master database. Open thematic analysis of qualitative comments was carried out using Excel. For the purposes of this report, percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number, which may result in a total not equal to 100%.
