Project background

Community-based Flood Emergency Action Plans

Ipswich is built on two floodplains, the Brisbane and Bremer rivers. Flooding is a reality. When it happens communities must be prepared.

Ipswich City Council is developing Community-based Flood Emergency Action Plans for seven locations that have been identified as being high priority, based on flood risk and community and social factors.

The plans are designed for anyone in these communities and will provide practical guidance on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a flood event. Each plan will include location-specific information tailored to local needs.

If you have a connection to any of the identified locations, we want to hear from you. Your local knowledge and experiences with flooding are vital to shaping plans that reflect the realities of each community.

A connection can mean many things, you don’t need to live in the location to participate. You may live or work there, own property, attend a local school, or have children who do. You might visit regularly for shopping, sport, cultural or social activities, or travel through them as part of your daily commute. You may even feel connected through local networks, family or friends, or past experiences.

If you have indicated more than one location, we would ask you to complete the survey for each, as every perspective is valuable. By sharing your knowledge and experiences, you will help ensure the Community-based Flood Emergency Action Plans meet the real needs of the people who live, work, and spend time in these communities.
