Project updates

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences for this project. We are now reviewing your responses and will be sharing findings with the community.

Click the +Follow button at the top of this page to be updated as this project progresses.

Informed by the community feedback shared during Phase 1, and developed in partnership with Yellow and Synergy Solutions, we’ve prepared the draft Community Flood Awareness Guides.

Phase 2 is now open. We’re inviting you to review the guides and share your thoughts to ensure they genuinely reflect Ipswich’s experiences with flooding and provide clear, practical guidance on preparedness measures that you could take.

This is your opportunity to ‘sense check’ the guides and confirm the guides increase your understanding of your flood risk and help inform your preparations and response to future flood events.

Consultation is open from 12 May 2026, and will close 25 May 2026. Click here to share your feedback.

Project background

Community Flood Awareness Guides

Ipswich sits on the floodplains of the Brisbane and Bremer rivers. Flooding is a reality. When it happens communities must be prepared.

Ipswich City Council is developing Community Flood Awareness Guides for seven locations that have been identified as being high priority, based on flood risk and community and social factors.

The guides are designed for anyone who lives or has a connection to these communities and will provide practical guidance on how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a flood event. Each guide will include location-specific information tailored to local needs.

If you have a connection to any of the identified locations, we asked you to take part. Your local knowledge and experiences with flooding are vital to shaping guides that reflect the realities of each community.

A connection in this instance may mean many things, you don’t need to live in the location to participate. You may live or work there, own property, attend a local school, or have children who do. You might visit regularly for shopping, sport, cultural or social activities, or travel through them as part of your daily commute. You may even feel connected through local networks, family or friends, or past experiences.

Participants who indicated more than one location, were asked to complete the survey for each, as every perspective is valuable. By sharing your knowledge and experiences, you will help ensure the Community Flood Awareness Guides meet the real needs of the people who live, work, and spend time in these locations.

Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences as part of this project. To read a summary of what was shared in Phase 1, click here.

The draft Community Flood Awareness Guides for all seven locations are now ready to view. Click here to view the draft guide for your location.

Phase 2 consultation closed on 25 May 2026. Feedback received during this stage is now being reviewed and will help inform the final guides.

Phase 2

During Phase 1, community members across seven Ipswich locations shared their flood experiences, how they prefer to receive information during future events, and the steps they currently take to prepare.

Click here to return to the Phase 1 tab and select a location of interest to read a summary of what was shared.

This feedback has directly helped shape the Community Flood Awareness Guides for each location.

During Phase 2 we asked you to review the draft guides and tell us:

  • Do they resonate with your experience?
  • Do they reflect the comments shared in Phase 1?
  • Are the suggested actions practical and likely to be used in your own planning?

Your insights will help ensure the guides are clear, useful, and grounded in real community experience.

Community engagement now closed - thank you for your feedback.
