Below is a snapshot of some statistics reflecting the total number of contributors to the Phase 1 engagement, based on 351 survey contributors.

What you shared

The following results are based on feedback from 23 contributors for Gailes.
  • Connection to Gailes

    • 74% live in Gailes
    • 13% work in Gailes
    • 9% are members of community groups in Gailes
    • 13% mentioned other connections to the area
  • Previous impacts

    • 61% have been impacted by flooding in Gailes


    Of that 61%,

    - 25% have experienced water inside their home
    - 56% had water enter onto their property
    - 19% moved their possessions to higher ground
    - 50% purchased supplies and planned to shelter in place
    - 56% either evacuated or assisted other to evacuate

  • Information sources

    • Information shared by family and friends was the most commonly selected source for 20% of Gailes respondents
    • Traditional channels such as radio and television were the strongest second preference
    • Family and friends again featured strongly as a third‑preference source (20%), alongside the Bureau of Meteorology (20%) and social media (20%)
  • Messaging

    • 78% agreed that they could access information about Gailes
    • 72% agreed that they understood the information shared
    • 28% agreed that the information shares was too technical/difficult to understand
    • 18% agreed that they used the information shared to help them prepare
    • 55% agreed that the information was reliable and accurate
  • Flood Risk

    • 100% understand the flood risk for Gailes
    • 78% understand the impact of minor, moderate and major flood level classifications impacts for Gailes
    • 47% know which flood gauge/s applies to Gailes
  • Plans and guides

    • 61% would prefer to have the plans available via an Android/Apple App
    • 55% would like to view the guides on the Ipswich Disaster Dashboard
    • 51% would like to view the guides on the Ipswich City Council website

Disclaimer: Quantitative and qualitative data was collected from participants during the engagement, in accordance with council’s Information Privacy Policy. Quantitative data was downloaded from the various digital platforms and/or transcribed into a master Excel database by project staff. The data was cleaned, de-identified, aggregated and charted in the master database. Open thematic analysis of qualitative comments was carried out using Excel. For the purposes of this report, percentages are rounded to the nearest whole number, which may result in a total not equal to 100%.
