    73% of respondents prefer for Old Tallegalla School to be retained by Ipswich City Council.

  • Heritage

    Many respondents emphasised the importance of preserving the school's historical and cultural heritage.

  • Finance

    There were mixed responses around whether council should be responsible/have the capacity to fund the costs of rehabilitating the property.

  • Future use

    Most respondents wanted to see the property activated, providing a wide variety of suggestions that also complement local lifestyle.

Old Tallegalla School showcases elements of Queensland's cultural heritage that are considered rare, uncommon, or endangered.

This property is currently included in the Queensland Heritage Register, which means all usage must abide by the Queensland Heritage Act 1992.

Old Tallegalla School must be used for heritage, historical and cultural purposes. Use of the property should align with the land’s intended purpose, and should not diminish the purpose of the land. Any divergent use necessitates a Land Management Plan and public consultation.

The Queensland Government owns Old Tallegalla School. As the land owner, the State Government holds direct control and discretion over its use, including decisions on how the property is managed, sold, leased, or developed.

The trustee only manages the property on behalf of the Queensland Government.
