⭐Project background
Ipswich’s Suburban Renewal Program is a place-based initiative designed to support the creation of thriving, connected and liveable communities as Ipswich continues to grow and evolve.
The program recognises that strong suburbs don’t happen by accident, they are shaped through thoughtful planning, meaningful community input and coordinated investment.
Through close partnerships between council, local businesses, residents and a wide range of community stakeholders, the Suburban Renewal program will guide improvements to public spaces, streets, community facilities, transport connections and local centres.
The goal is to ensure that every suburb can continue to meet the needs of current residents while also preparing for the needs of future generations.
A key part of this work is the development of Place Plans for important suburban centres across Ipswich. These plans will set out a shared vision and practical actions tailored to each local area, helping to guide investment and decision‑making over time.
To test and refine this approach, council is currently delivering two pilot Place Plan projects, one in Rosewood and one in Booval.
These pilots explore how communities and stakeholders can work alongside council to co‑develop a vision and action plan for their local centre. Importantly, they also trial a model where responsibility for delivering the plan is shared across Council, community members, local businesses and other partners.
The insights, lessons and community feedback gathered through the Rosewood and Booval pilots will directly inform the next stage of the Suburban Renewal Program.
This will help council refine the Place Plan process and roll it out more broadly across Ipswich’s suburban centres in the years ahead.
