Planning codes, legislation and Council policies outline thorough procedures that ensure the potential impacts to community and the environment are mitigated. Council will provide regular updates on the project while continuing to listen to feedback from the community.

Council have secured a service provider to commence works on the 4 bin bays at the Rosewood Recycling and Refuse Centre, beginning in November 2023. While the current Recycling and refuse Centre on Oakleigh Colliery Road, Rosewood has served the western community well for more than 30 years, the plan is for the new Resource Recovery Centre to replace the current site. The existing facility will continue to serve the community until the new centre is operational.

Pending community consultation and detailed design development, and development assessment and environmental licencing processes, we are aiming for the facility to be operational by 2027-28, noting early site works could commence in 2024-25. We are committed to expediting the process while ensuring that the community's input is considered in the facility's final design.

The next steps in the process are to do detailed analysis of the shortlist and rank these against the criteria and commence any commercial conversations. The next stage of community consultation will focus on gathering feedback on the shortlisted sites to assist council in the decision process for the future Western RRC site. We are committed to ensuring that your voices are heard, and this next phase of community engagement will take place in early 2024.
