Project background

Flinders-Goolman Conservation Estate is the largest remaining stretch of open eucalyptus forest in South-East Queensland and includes volcanic peaks, and headwaters for a number of creek systems. It is a popular location for nature-based recreation including bushwalking, horse riding, mountain biking, camping and birdwatching.

The estate is a critical habitat for a number of rare and threatened species of plant and animals, including the Ipswich faunal emblem the brush-tailed rock wallaby, Flinders plum, greater glider and slender milkvine. Physical artefacts and sites of spiritual significance are also documented, making it an area of cultural significance to Traditional Owners.

Council is developing the Flinders-Goolman Masterplan which will guide future Enviroplan investment into the estate, including new and upgraded infrastructure, visitor education and activities, and environmental improvements. Council has now developed a draft masterplan and would like your feedback, particularly on the proposed:

  • Vision
  • Ward Road day use area
  • Themed trails

Have your say by 7 December 2025 to help shape the Flinders-Goolman Masterplan.
